PHOTO 72 - HOST CHURCH CEMETERY - Bernville, Berks County, PA

A very nice and classic old cemetery is Host Church Cemetery in Bernville, Berks County, Pennsylvania. I love the old tombstones that beautifully blanket the landscape in this picture. Time has not been friendly to the stone wall and many of the tombstones.

PHOTO 71 - TOMBSTONE OF BILLY MARTIN - Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Mount Pleasant, NY

One ... Two .... Three Strikes You're Out ...... Ok, today is the third day for a baseball player tombstone. Billy Martin was a great Yankee player and manager and his tombstone reflects it. He is buried only a few feet from Babe Ruth and his stone is lovely. His number ("1") flanks both sides of the monument. There is also one of his famous quotes and a lovely engraving of St. Jude. A beautiful stone and a fitting tribute to a great baseball man.

PHOTO 70 - TOMBSTONE OF LOU GEHRIG - Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY

In keeping with the baseball theme, today's post is the tombstone of the "Iron Horse," Lou Gehrig. A real man's man and a great ballplayer, Lou's life was cut short by the disease that now bears his name (otherwise known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or ALS). Lou and his wife were cremated and I believe their cremains rest in the metal chamber above the last name. You can also see that scores of baseball fans have visited Lou's grave.

PHOTO 69 - TOMBSTONE OF GEORGE HERMAN "BABE" RUTH - Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Mount Pleasant, NY

I apologize again for not keeping current with this blog. Maybe I should change it to the "AlmostDailyTombstonePhoto" blog! Today, with the beginning of the baseball season and the Yankees playing I thought I would post the tombstone of the greatest Yankee and perhaps the greatest baseball player, BABE RUTH. A very lovely gigantic stone very symbolic of the gigantic personality that was Babe Ruth. As you can see from the flag and other items by the grave, this site still remains popular.
