I had the opportunity to photograph a small cemetery on Mount Desert Island, ME (One of the most beautiful places on Earth!), so I will be posting pics during the shoot for the next few days or maybe weeks. There is a nice sampling of stones from the 1840's - 1920's. You can see from the inscription on this stone that Mr. Burns participated in the Civil War and was a member of a heavy artillery regiment from Maine. He also died while the war was still ongoing, which leads one to believe that he quite possibly died as a result of his participation in the war. Also buried with him is one Lewis M. Burns and I believe this is quite possibly George's brother. I love the look of this stone with the various shades of color. Fortunately, it has not weathered too bad in 140 years.
