TOMBSTONE OF CAROLINE FISH - Salisbury Cove Cemetery, Salisbury Cove, Mount Desert Island, ME

A very sad thing to see when one visits older cemeteries is a pair of siblings or several family members buried close to each other, each having lived a short life.  Today's tombstone, Caroline Fish, is similar and right next to her sister, Susan's tombstone.  Caroline lived to be only 17.  Susan was a young age as well.  What heartache Captain and Mrs. Fish must have had burying their 2 daughters next to each other within a year!  You can only imagine how many tears were shed at these graves.  Just like Susan's grave, Caroline's has the beautiful "Bliss" inscribed above her name and information.  She also has a foot stone like her sister.  Further, the tombstone has inscribed her parents' names and when she died.  The coloration of the stone is unique and the inscription is easier to read than Susan's.  Since the graves are right next to each other it is interesting that one grave has weathered more than the other.
